Although digital signs and other Digital Signage solutions are gaining popularity in Ukraine, on Western markets they\u2019ve long been a must\u2011have. One example is wayfinding kiosks that provide up\u2011to\u2011date information about attractions. I immediately thought, why not use the same in our town to help people find the information they need in just a few clicks?\u201d<\/p>\n
So in April 2017 Blowing Rock installed digital touch kiosks at two high\u2011traffic intersections to replace old static signs. A bright display, intuitive interface, and expanded functionality immediately attracted attention and produced the expected WOW effect \u2014 one of Digital Signage\u2019s primary objectives.<\/p>\n
The info kiosks feature interactive screens on the front panel and 55\u2011inch displays on the back showing videos of local attractions. Content can be updated remotely from anywhere in the world via Wi\u2011Fi. For durability and security the kiosks are bolted to concrete foundations with large anchors.<\/p>\n
Community organizations and businesses can post information for free provided the video or photo content relates to tourism. The city invested $50,000 in four kiosks and video screens. The annual data\u2011management and maintenance fee is $1,190.<\/p>\n

The point is many people are looking for specific information (attractions, restaurants, hotels, routes). They don\u2019t want to read brochures that don\u2019t guarantee the answer they need.[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”3152″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n
The Tourism Development Office in Richmond County followed Blowing Rock\u2019s example and installed informational digital kiosks for the same purpose. The project, implemented two years ago, eliminated the need for endless printed brochures.<\/p>\n
Richmond County installed 12 kiosks at highway stops, popular tourist sites, near attractions and in hotels. Five kiosks were placed in travel\u2011agency offices, shopping centers and community colleges. They also appear in restaurants and museums.<\/p>\n
The software lets staff see how many people use the kiosks \u2014 some report around 10,000 users per month. Like in Blowing Rock, Richmond reduced spending on printed materials.<\/p>\n
Besides operating 24\/7, the kiosks enable communication with tourists and visitors. To prevent moisture, smoke and dust ingress the kiosks are sealed with welded seams, compression locks and rubber gaskets. Special locks protect against unauthorized access and tampering. Displays remain bright even in direct sunlight.
