Digital Signage in Action: Santander’s Hybrid Bank and Café Branch in Chile

International bank Santander has introduced a new branch format in Chile. The company aims to create a unique community space unlike any other in the country or the world. A distinctive feature of the project is that half of the branch is a bank and the other half is a café. Digital Signage technology has been implemented in both parts of the space.

A new view of the banking sector through the lens of Digital Signage

The Santander WorkCafé format was developed by PX Group, a customer experience consultant in South America. The concept combines co‑working spaces, a café and banking services.

Bank and café customers and visitors can:

  • use free Wi‑Fi;
  • visit the café;
  • use conference rooms;
  • receive financial consultations from Santander staff.

There are also self‑service kiosks for Santander customers to perform transactions.

Santander branches actively use Digital Signage technology. Touch sensors are integrated into the entrance kiosks and into a video wall made up of four 55‑inch screens. The video wall is the central feature of each branch. It broadcasts a variety of information: news, economic statistics, promotional offers and other content. A Zytronic touch interface provides an intuitive experience for customers.

About the Digital Signage implementation in their own words

“WorkCafé Santander transforms how we engage with customers, visitors and the wider community. It reflects the changes we’re seeing in our relationships with customers. It’s what they expect from their banks.

WorkCafé is focused on a younger generation of customers, especially entrepreneurs. They like coming to us, meeting and interacting with us online,” says Matías Sánchez, Santander’s CEO of commercial and retail banking.

“With more than 15 years’ experience in retail design and innovation, we created WorkCafé. The café was the ideal solution for transforming the branch.

The unique touch technology was very important for our concept. We worked with Zytronic to implement touch screens that customers expect and enjoy,” says Annaliese Schemke, sales and innovation manager at PX Group.

The bank has rolled out the new format in twenty branches and plans to open another twenty before the end of 2018. This is an unquestionable success for Digital Signage and interactive technologies.
