They are becoming an important and integral part of the Retail sector. Research and financial reports from retail chains and companies show that stores implementing Digital Signage technology increase sales by 15–20%.
This is a predictable result, but only with correct project implementation. Equipment and its capabilities, placement, content, ease of system management and other aspects — each influences the effectiveness of this innovative technology. And what if there’s none at all?
The store becomes boring and like all the rest. With outdated customer service methods, forgettable interiors and tired staff.

And it doesn’t matter that they look a bit like robots — that’s even better (because it’s interesting and the WOW effect is guaranteed!). The company presented robotic shopping carts and has already signed a supply agreement for the unique carts with the self‑service chain E‑mart Inc. in South Korea.
All because the country’s largest supermarket chain is interested in:
- improving service;
- offering a new customer experience to visitors;
- increasing shopper loyalty;
- boosting financial performance;
- leading the market and outpacing competitors.
And the South Korean company has long been known as a proponent of innovation. They say the future of retail is cashier‑free stores. Digital Signage technology will help realize this idea by:
- automating content management processes;
- optimizing workflows;
- minimizing financial and labor costs.
Indeed, thanks to the retailer’s efforts, the first cashierless store has already opened in Seoul.

- Follow shoppers;
- Move through aisles between displays and shelves;
- Avoid getting in shoppers’ way and not collide with others;
- Monitor what you place in the cart;
- Guide you to where to find a desired product.
Shoppers no longer need to push a cart in front of them and worry about navigating around others without bumping into them. The cart follows its operator. The robot analyses the environment, identifies obstacles and easily overcomes them.
One potential advantage of the cart is the ability to scan purchases as they go into the basket. A built‑in barcode scanner and display let you keep track of your shopping list. In addition, the cart can point the way to the desired product — just enter the query in the on‑screen app.
LG’s research lab continues to develop and refine these systems. The helper robots will be released under the CLOi brand — an acronym for Clear, Logical and Immediate Intelligence. There will be eight units in total, forming the CLOi series! Besides the cart robot, assistants for grass cutting, floor cleaning, convenient airport transport, food and drink delivery, and luggage transport in hotel rooms will also go on sale.
What will retail look like in 10 years? We’re sure it will be convenient and high‑tech stores. And there will be smart carts and other incredible Digital Signage solutions implemented by the Innovative DMC team.
