Although digital signs and other Digital Signage solutions are gaining popularity in Ukraine, on Western markets they’ve long been a must‑have. One example is wayfinding kiosks that provide up‑to‑date information about attractions. They operate 24/7 and become an excellent marketing tool for travel companies in many countries.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row el_id=”post-menu-1″ el_class=”post-menu-1″ css=”.vc_custom_1536306299471{padding-top: 40px !important;padding-bottom: 40px !important;}” ][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Digital kiosks instead of printed brochures” font_container=”tag:h2|text_align:center” use_theme_fonts=”yes” css=”.vc_custom_1561484223854{margin-bottom: 25px !important;}” ][vc_column_text]Tracy Brown, Executive Director of the Tourism Development Office in Blowing Rock (North Carolina, USA), talks about the use of informational touch kiosks: “I first noticed them in Pinehurst, where passersby could easily orient themselves thanks to these devices. I immediately thought, why not use the same in our town to help people find the information they need in just a few clicks?”

So in April 2017 Blowing Rock installed digital touch kiosks at two high‑traffic intersections to replace old static signs. A bright display, intuitive interface, and expanded functionality immediately attracted attention and produced the expected WOW effect — one of Digital Signage’s primary objectives.

The info kiosks feature interactive screens on the front panel and 55‑inch displays on the back showing videos of local attractions. Content can be updated remotely from anywhere in the world via Wi‑Fi. For durability and security the kiosks are bolted to concrete foundations with large anchors.

Digital kiosks benefit local businesses

Community organizations and businesses can post information for free provided the video or photo content relates to tourism. The city invested $50,000 in four kiosks and video screens. The annual data‑management and maintenance fee is $1,190.

The city achieved its main goals — they:

  • made visitors’ stay easier;
  • saved their time;
  • reassured them, which is crucial when they’re in an unfamiliar town.

The point is many people are looking for specific information (attractions, restaurants, hotels, routes). They don’t want to read brochures that don’t guarantee the answer they need.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”3152″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]

More kiosks and automation

The Tourism Development Office in Richmond County followed Blowing Rock’s example and installed informational digital kiosks for the same purpose. The project, implemented two years ago, eliminated the need for endless printed brochures.

Richmond County installed 12 kiosks at highway stops, popular tourist sites, near attractions and in hotels. Five kiosks were placed in travel‑agency offices, shopping centers and community colleges. They also appear in restaurants and museums.

The software lets staff see how many people use the kiosks — some report around 10,000 users per month. Like in Blowing Rock, Richmond reduced spending on printed materials.

Besides operating 24/7, the kiosks enable communication with tourists and visitors. Authorities can quickly update information, share news and display ads.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” css=”.vc_custom_1549961950649{padding-top: 60px !important;padding-bottom: 60px !important;background-color: #36a3dc !important;}” el_class=”call-action”][vc_column][ultimate_heading main_heading=”WANT TO LEARN ABOUT THE BENEFITS OF DIGITAL SIGNAGE FOR YOUR PROJECT?” main_heading_color=”#ffffff” heading_tag=”h4″ sub_heading_color=”#ffffff” main_heading_font_family=”font_family:Roboto|font_call:Roboto|variant:700″ main_heading_style=”font-weight:700;” main_heading_font_size=”desktop:30px;” main_heading_margin=”margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:20px;” sub_heading_font_family=”font_family:Roboto|font_call:Roboto|variant:300″ sub_heading_style=”font-weight:300;” sub_heading_font_size=”desktop:19px;” sub_heading_margin=”margin-bottom:30px;”>Contact us and get a FREE consultation for your projectDigital kiosks are convenient, durable and secure

None of the cities reported maintenance problems. Designed for outdoor use, the kiosks are equipped with:

  • a two‑stage powder‑coated enclosure;
  • multi‑layer impact‑resistant glass;
  • weather‑protection systems;
  • climate control.

To prevent moisture, smoke and dust ingress the kiosks are sealed with welded seams, compression locks and rubber gaskets. Special locks protect against unauthorized access and tampering. Displays remain bright even in direct sunlight.

The software allows you to:

  • manage content remotely;
  • track and analyze usage;
  • make updates;
  • monitor kiosk and OS status in real time;
  • configure alerts for various events;
  • receive notifications about failures and other issues for faster resolution.

These actions can be performed for one or all kiosks from a single location — wherever you are. After installation the kiosks are protected at the OS level and connected to a cloud management service.
